As a nature lover, this is my favourite place to stay in Bukit Lawang.
The guest house is located across the river and surrounded by a lush
tropical garden, which gives it a serenity and peacefulness you cannot
find in the village itself. Still it is close enough to all shops and
restaurants if you want to go out and explore (about 10 to 15 minutes
walk).
The rooms are simple but clean, all provided with mosquito net and fan. Each room has a small attached bathroom that is sufficiently equipped with western toilet and shower.
Most of the fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables that are used in the restaurant's kitchen come straight out of the garden, which is lovingly maintained and cared for by the whole family. This gives even more value and taste to the various dishes on the menu.
On all different occasions when I stayed at this guest house, the warm welcome and hospitality of the owners have always made me feel safe and at home. It is a small treasure in Bukit Lawang which I can truly recommend!

Room Tip: All rooms have the basic cold shower and western toilet
I absolutely loved my stay here, so relaxing, quiet and friendly. The
passion fruit juice (from the garden) is not to be missed! The food is
delicious and the family are so helpful and friendly. We did a 3 day
jungle trek organised here and went to see the elephants on a motorbike
with Panji. The bat caves are close by too. A really special place, I
hope to return in the future :)
We stayed in Bukit Lawang for a week. Our group stayed at the neighboring Ecolodge, but we ate at Batu Mandi as often as we could. Their food is great, and their service is natural, homey and very warm, unlike the commercial service we got at our hotel. After a few visits, we decided to move into Batu Mandi. Rooms are extremely affordable, and away from the main strip it's quiet and has beautifully manicured gardens no other hotel has. Rooms are clean with new mosquito nets that aren't tattered, toilets are simple but sufficient, each room has a balcony with hammocks, the garden has open lawns to lie on, a bench to look out onto the river from, and even badminton! What's more is you don't hear the blaring disco music that can kick off as early as 9am from the village. Highly recommend it - the people there are fantastic.
Room Tip: All rooms are facing the same beautifully manicured gardens so you have your pick.
